Beyond Servitude: Black Aristocracy and Upper-Class Presence in Europe

Title
Beyond Servitude: Black Aristocracy and Upper-Class Presence in Europe
Description
Due to the pervasive whitewashing of history in mainstream media, there is a common misconception that Black people were scarcely present in Europe, and when they were, it was solely in roles of servitude—such as servants, maids, or slaves. However, there is a rich and often overlooked history of Black aristocrats and upper-class figures who played significant roles in European society. This collection aims to challenge and disrupt this limited narrative, shedding light on the presence and influence of these individuals throughout European history, and restoring their rightful place in the historical record through visual presence, i.e. paintings.
