Terracotta kantharos (drinking cup)
Title (Dublin Core)
Terracotta kantharos (drinking cup)
Description (Dublin Core)
The tall, flaring handles with struts and notched decoration indicate the influence of metallic prototypes. Impressed designs resembling fans, made with a comb-like device, are typical of this period. Archaeologists generally divide bucchero pottery into two basic types, bucchero pesante (heavy) and, as exemplified here, bucchero sottile (light), which tends to be finer, thinner, and more delicate. Archaic period, ca. 650-600 BCE.
