This project was completed using Dublin Core, with the exception of two instances of VRA indicated by "***". The controlled vocabularies and their reasoning are listed below.

Title: the name of the work

Summary (Description): an overview of the information about the work. These descriptions were pulled directly from the hosting site or museums' collection sites

Artist (Creator): this is a combination of Getty ULAN and Wikidata - Persons. Getty ULAN was checked first, but it had difficulty pulling lesser-known artists' names into Omeka S. Wikidata - Persons was used to fill in Getty ULAN's gaps

Date: when the work was created ("circa" added if exact date is unknown)

Topic (Subject): this is a combination of LC Subject Headings and Wikidata - Persons. LC Subject Headings has both general and specific topics. For example, it has flowers, as well as flower species (which also came with different names, ex: Hollyhocks = Alcea). It also had "Impressionism (Art) - United States" as a subject matter which offered much more specificity than simply "Impressionism". Wikidata - Persons was used as many people depicted in these paintings are not well-known and do not exist in other databases

Medium: LC Name Authority File was used as it offered "oil on canvas" as an option. Other databases, such as Getty's databases, divided these materials separately into oil and canvas

Dimensions: added for an extra description of the work

***Place of creation: these paintings are based heavily on where they were created; the gardens almost always depict the painting’s origins. As such, I used VRA to offer a location division so the context of the paintings' origins could be retained, while also indicating where they are currently housed. I used Wikidata - Locations as it had the most specific location options, which even included specific gardens on small islands

***Location of: see "Place of creation" above. Additionally, I also used Wikidata - Entities to include the names of the museums housing the works

Provenance: the history of ownership of the work

Identifier: the official accession number from the hosting site or museum's collection site

Source: the link to the work in the hosting site or museum's collection site, as well as the institute's name and the work's accession number

Rights: the work's official copyright status
