Methodology
To catalog the collection of objects for this site, the following standards were used:
Content Standard: Cataloging Cultural Objects
Structure Standards: a comination of elements from Dublin Core and VRA schemas were used.
Value Standards: Getty Art & Architecture Thesaurus, Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names, and Library of Congress Subject Headings
Title: title of the object as stated by the owning institution
Creator: name of the individual who created the object (it is important to specify that the creator is unknown in the case of all of these objects)
Identifier: a unique number assigned to each object by the owning institution
Date: the year or range of years when the object was created
Work Type (Type): a description of the category of the artwork, based on its manner of production or how it was manufactured (uses AAT)
Associated Location (Coverage): the geographical region associated with the object (this can relate to an archaeoligical site where the object is believed to have originated from) (uses TGN)
cultural context: the culture that utilized the object (in some cases, an object may have been made by one culture and used by another, or may depict an individual from another culture) (uses AAT)
Medium: the material used to create the object (uses AAT)
Description: information describing what the object is, what/who is depicted in the object ("of-ness") as well as information describing what the object represents ("about-ness")
Subject: words selected from LCSH to describe the subject-matter of the object
height: dimension of the object
width: dimension of the object
depth: dimension of the object
diameter: dimension of the object
Rights Statement (Rights): this identifies any copyright restrictions that may exist (uses options from rightsstatements.org)
Holding/Owning Institution (Rights Holder): the cultural institution where the object resides
