Repurposed: Vision meets Sound
Art and music have long been interconnected in a variety of ways. Recordings needed cover art so jazz labels hired photographers, pop artists created logos and unique graphics for influential rock bands. What this sample collection attempts to display however is not just “cover art” but fine art pieces repurposed for a recording. The selection of artists represented here created these pieces not for any particular music but when the works became cover art they gained new meaning and representation.
I started this project with William Eggleston’s photos of the American south in mind, but when I thought about Greenwood, Mississippi, I also thought about the music inextricably connected to it, and knew of more examples of art turned into cover art so I pulled together a collection.
