Bernstein Brothers Sheet Metal Specialties, Inc. was a family-owned, Long Island City-based metal fabrication shop known for producing sculptures for artist Donald Judd from the 1960s onward. Owned by Rick Bernstein, the company moved from Manhattan to a 6,500-square-foot facility at 41-18 24th Street in Queens in 1964, providing critical industrial fabrication for Judd’s "post-studio" works.

PLEXIGLAS® is a trademarked chemical composition created in the interwar period in Germany by Dr. Otto Röhm. In the 1960s, the leading manufacturer of PLEXIGLAS® (the registered trademark for acrylic sheet) was Rohm and Haas Company. This acrylic material, which was heavily used in that era for diverse applications, including furniture, signage, and construction.
