Welcome to In My Sanctuary: A Living Archive of Queer Nightlife

This collection highlights the diversity of queer nightlife and how these archives preserve moments of joy and resistance for the queer community. It’s important to acknowledge that these spaces are cornerstones for LGBTQ+ public life and cultivating community throughout history. From ballroom culture to AIDS education events, we explore records of queer community building in the United States from 1950 to the present. This collection combines historical pieces from queer archives with rolling submissions from photographers and artists, in order to emphasize that this is a living document highlighting a culture that is still very much alive.
