Methodology

I cataloged these items as artworks therefore all metadata are employed to describe the physical objects. I used Dublin Core as the base metadata schema and incorporated controlled vocabularies such as ULAN, TGN, and AAT. Metadata Browse (“see all items with this value”) was set for Artist’s Nationality, Category, and Subjects as some vocabularies in the three areas are shared by multiple items in this collection.

Identifier: When the work is currently in a museum with an accession number assigned, the Identifier here consists of a self-created institution code (e.g. MOMA for The Museum of Modern Art, NGA for National Gallery of Art) and the artwork’s accession number. For example, MOMA277.1963 is set for the Jasper Johns painting. When the work is found to be at a gallery, a private collection, or in the artist’s hands, the letter code, created by me, shows the initials of the gallery/collector/artist and is followed by the year when the art was made and a sequential, numeric code (01 for all of them). For example, TR2017.01 is set for Tiffany Chung’s work, made in 2017 and presented through Tyler Rollins Fine Art, or, BK2008.01 is set for Bouchra Khalili’s work made in 2008.
