Methodology

The following vocabularies provided the elements that best described the items in this collection:

  • Dublin Core
  • Getty Art and Architecture Thesaurus
  • Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names
  • Getty Union List of Artist Names
  • Library of Congress Subject Headings

Scope & Purpose

To explain the organization of item pages in the collection, a few fields were altered quite significantly along with the order in which fields were placed. It was important that the Model (or, the Gilded Age woman, in this case) be prominently placed, even above the Artist in most cases, to further elevate them. Though some of those women remain unavailable when searching vocabularies, their names are recorded nonetheless. I also felt it important to include the Location of each item so that the Art Guide could be created to make the collection walkable and, therefore, interactive.
