About the Exhibit
Inspiration
I developed a deep love for the Hudson at an early age.
Growing up in Nyack, New York, I felt I was in some way always connected to the River. I would catch it still and sparkling in the distance from my living room and sneaking into my rearview mirror driving up and down the hilly streets of town. I would go down to the River to read and collect rocks. I would hike, swim, kayak - anything to be near or in view of the water. When my first pet, a beta fish named Blueberry, died when I was 8, I took him down to the River and sent him off like the Lady of Shallot. The River was important to me. The River IS important to me - it is a force and an inspiration.
My love for the Hudson led me to study Environmental Science in college, where I focused on biodiversity and conservation. My hope as an emerging library and information professional, is to encourage environmental literacy and access to information, across fields and through different mediums. For this project, I explored the Hudson River in art! - the Hudson as a muse, for artists throughout time. With the River as a constant, it’s interesting to look at the changing perspectives, how our relationship and our interactions with the River have changed over time.
