Methodology
The objects included in this gallery were gathered from the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York Historical Society, the Museum of the City of New York, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Images of the objects, along with their corresponding data were taken from the respective institutions' digital collections and fit to match a set of categories/elements that best reflected the object itself and the collection as a whole.
Schema
The metadata for each object follows the Dublin Core schema.
Controlled Vocabulary
As mentioned, items in this collection were sourced from several institutions. Terminology used to describe the objects varied across these institutions. For consistency, the Library of Congress controlled vocabulary was used to standardize the following fields: Creator, Medium, and Subject. These fields were chosen in order to minimize variant terms and synonyms, and to link and consolidate similar information.
