Historic American Buildings Survey 1936

The items below were photographed by E.P. McFarland as part of the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS). The HABS collection is titled: Van Anda House, 1416 Flushing Avenue, Ridgewood, Queens County, NY.  “Van Anda” is an alternate spelling of Vander Ende. "1416 Flushing Avenue" was the street address of the house at the time of the survey. The street number has since been changed to "1820."  The house was a residential rental property at the time of these photographs.

According to the National Parks Service, “The Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) is the nation's first federal preservation program, begun in 1933 to document America's architectural heritage. Creation of the program was motivated primarily by the perceived need to mitigate the negative effects upon our history and culture of rapidly vanishing architectural resources”
